About Pompeia Rufina

Pompeia Rufina (Fina to her family) was born in Roman Britain at the height of Rome's power within the province.  Fina is a Romano-Celt, born of the marriage of a Roman man stationed in Britannia and a high ranking woman from one of the local tribes.  While she keeps the Roman customs of her father's house, she finds herself intrigued by the culture of her mother's people. Upon returning to her father's ancestral lands, she has established herself among Roman culture and society, and does her best to live up to her obligations as the daughter of a Senator.

I am a member of the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA).  The SCA is an international non-profit organization dedicated to the study and recreation of the Middle Ages.  I currently live in the Kingdom of An Tir which is comprised of Washington, Oregon, part of Idaho, and British Columbia.

This website is dedicated to my research and recreation of the Arts and Sciences of the Middle Ages.  My first passion is the study of Roman food, cookery, and culture, and I expect that many of my posts will be about those things.  I have been known to stray into other eras of medieval cookery, but tend to maintain my interest in primarily Mediterranean cultures. I am keenly interested in how diet and food preferences have changed and/or remained the same in the Italian peninsula from ancient times to the late Renaissance. However, I am also interested in other medieval arts including calligraphy and illumination, needlework, jewelry making, and a number of fiber arts.  I am also a herald and archer, and it is possible that my posts will include a wide variety of topics related to my endeavors in the SCA.

I love having the opportunity to share my knowledge with others, and I am willing to teach classes and share my skills.  If interested in having me teach at an event, please feel free to contact me using the contact form on the contact page.
